I knew that I wanted to be stronger in my religious practice, I lacked the tools to make it a reality. My life was in the streets. I needed help. The academy so far has given me the tools to connect with the Torah.
When is enough good enough?
Shalom Ed and Marilyn, My name is Yuval Shlomo. I am 18-years-old, and I am from Pisgat Zev in Jerusalem. I have four sisters; I am the only boy in the family. I came to the IDF Preparatory Academy in Bet El in September, and I must say that it was a great choice. I come from a religious home, but I found myself drifting from tradition. Although since I was 16, I knew that I wanted to be stronger in my religious practice, I lacked the tools to make it a reality. My life was in the streets. I needed help. The academy so far has given me the tools to connect with the Torah. I now would identify myself as a religious person. The academy teaches in a very special way. They allow us to make our own choices. I need this type of attitude, because it is difficult for me to follow anything blindly. I need to do it at my pace, and the academy is accommodating. They don’t make us come to classes or prayer services, and I think that is why I always attend them, because it is my choice. I hope I continue to improve here. I have good friends in the academy, and I love the rabbis. If you come to Israel, I would love to meet you to thank you for making the academy a possibility.
