I was brought up religious, but I stopped keeping the mitzvot. After being here for several months, I am now enthusiastic about being religious. The rabbis at the academy are great teachers. They are very inspiring, and it all comes from their hearts. I needed to reach this on my own at my own pace and the academy is so open – they accept all the students as they are. We are like one family.
When is enough good enough?
Dear Joseph and Becky,
My name is Ron. I am from Tiryat Yehudah, a moshav near Petach Tikvah, and I am 18-years-old. Thank you for supporting the IDF Preparatory Academy in Bet El. This has been a life-changing experience for me. I had no intentions of coming to the academy or any preparatory academy for that matter. But my friend asked me to come with him to check it out, and in the end I stayed and he didn’t. I think he didn’t come because he was afraid to change. I am not afraid to change, if the change is for the better. It was the best decision of my life. My parents say that I have changed. They think I have matured, and they say that I am more respectful of others. I hope that I will be an officer in the IDF. I want to give it my best. Before I came to the academy, the IDF was the last thing on my mind. But the rabbis here taught me the importance of giving to the Jewish people. I think the most important thing I learned is the reasons that I will be fighting for our right to exist in our land. So I would again like to express my appreciation for your support. Your support has given me the ambition to connect with my people and to be the best that I can be when I go to the army. When you come to Israel, I would love to meet you to thank your personally.
Sincerely,
Ron
